Spousal Assault and Risk Assessments (SARA)

Court Up conducts assessments for individuals that perpetrate violence toward intimate partners. They are referred to as ‘Spousal Assault Risk Assessments’ (SARA) and assess whether an individual poses a threat of intimate partner violence and predict the likelihood of further perpetration. Relevant interventions can then be recommended to achieve positive behaviour change and increase community safety.

How could a SARA assessment be useful for an individual who is violent toward their intimate partner (current or former)?

The SARA assessment will enable a better understanding of why an individual is violent towards an intimate partner, whether it is a current partner, or one from the past. This information can be used to manage future risk of intimate partner violence happening again.  It can help in planning treatment.

Who can request a SARA assessment?

Court Up receives requests for SARA assessments from lawyers, police, family violence services and court.
